The Garden Gnomes

The Garden Gnomes was started in 2011.  It was then known as “The Late Bloomers”.

At the time, the Memorial Garden was very untidy and weed infested.  A few parishioners began tidying it up with the intention of it being a colourful and attractive space outside the church, in memory of the former parishioners whose memorial plaques are located there.

The group meets regularly to tidy up and plant this section out as well as keeping the rose garden weeded and pruned.

The rose garden was installed on the recommendation of former Parish Priest, Fr John Derbyshire.  He was at the parish from May 2003 to May 2004.

The late Paul Frood, one of our parishioners, was instrumental in helping and parishioners donated roses in memory of loved ones.  Another parishioner, the late Gerry Barber, was also a regular helper, keeping the roses pruned annually.

We enjoy getting together and making the surrounds an attractive sight for parishioners and any visitors at the church, who may be attending baptisms, weddings, funerals or other functions.

All plants and cuttings are donated from parishioners’ own gardens to create a cost-free garden to be enjoyed by all.
